Holiday dinners are fixed times on everyone's busy calendars to slow down and put family first. My best advice to home cooks, whether you're just starting out or hosting a giant dinner party, is to plan ahead The day of the holiday should be about enjoying each other's company, not racing around cooking and putting together unfamiliar ingredients. It was impossible to slice because it keep falling apart. This is now a favorite at our house. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review. Apr 21, Marie rated it really liked it. I love cookbooks. I love cooking, but I might love cookbooks even more.
At last count, I had more than on my special cookbook bookshelf. Say that three times fast. This fun book, full of mouth-watering pictures AND mouth-watering recipes has a menu plan for every week of the year, along with the recipes of course! It arrived in my mailbox during menu-planning week, so I immediately began perusing the pages to see what delightful dishes I could add to my March and April menu. Everyone gave two thumbs up to the casserole, but the salad was apparently the bigger hit.
I made extra salad, thinking I would have some left for my lunch the next day, but no such luck. It was such a hit that I made again the next week when all my kids were home for a Sunday family dinner. I must confess, that this time I cut the amount of sugar in the salad dressing by about half I am not a big sugar lover, even though I love to make sweets and treats and found it every bit as delicious as the original recipe you all do know that I have trouble sticking to those recipes, right?
Nevertheless, this recipe was an even bigger hit than the Pork Chops. Or maybe cooking is my first love and reading is my second? Either way, they are pretty close together either way and so it is always a bonus to be able to review a cookbook — combine the two! My husband has actually gotten into cooking recently so it is always nice to have a new source for dishes to try out on the family. Luckily my stepson eats pretty much anything you put in fr originally reviewed for StoreyBookReviews.

One of the hits of the cookbook Porkchop and Hashbrown Casserole. It is a Week 12 recipe. The chops were so tender and the hashbrowns, with cream of celery soup and sour cream. But the best ingredient here, French's Fried Onions! This recipe is to die for! If you like chocolate cake, you will love this one. It is so chocolaty and moist! It definitely should be served with vanilla ice cream or a tall glass of ice cold milk! I'm terrible with meatloaf recipes, but this one was perfect and full of flavor.
Everyone loved that one too. If you love BBQ, this meatloaf is definitely one you will want to try. The cookbook is full of great recipes and tips. It is a real family cookbook. I thought about throwing some BBQ sauce in there and decided to check out the book instead. I had the ingredients in my pantry and decided to give it a try. It was very good. I was happy and my family was happy! Then next night I had steaks to cook. It was also tasty. There are so many things that I want to try and I'm glad that I will get the chance. In the book they also have family traditions that sound like a lot of fun. I tried using the family dinner conversation starters last night.
One of the questions that I asked my kids is 9 If you could trade places with your parents for a day, what would you do differently? I was surprised that their answers weren't critical. My 16 year old daughter said that she wouldn't trade us, she's not ready for that kind of responsibility.

The difference with this cookbook is that the recipes are organized as complete menus, each with a main dish, side or salad or bread and a dessert.
Each recipe has a photograph which is something I really appreciate. I made Snickerdoodle Blondies because I wanted a non-chocolate dessert for a family dinner The Doctor is allergic to chocolate. The recipe came together easily and was a hit with my family. While it is lacking the distinct tartness that comes with true Snickerdoodles, this was nevertheless a hit with my family. My mom and sister both requested the recipe and the kids couldn't get enough. It's pretty rich and goes well with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
I have quite a few other recipes marked and look forward to trying them. This book takes it a step further and brings you Feb 12, Nicole rated it it was amazing Shelves: cookbooks.
