I find it helpful to show to therapists and eventually to my parents because they truly don't understand our despair until they read the suffering of a woman a good friend of mine who has been stuck in this mindset for thirty years and has no hope of ever recovering. They don't understand how all-consuming bulimia is, and how embarrassing it is, and how sick you really are when at the same time the media just throws "anorexia anorexia anorexia" about eating disorders and well-known celebrities who "dealt" with it as a teenager.
Bulimia is really the hidden sick sibling of anorexia that no one talks about. This book talks about it. Do not read it if you don't want to be triggered - you will be. It is written by myself and friends who have dealt with and continue to deal with the worst of bulimia though I cannot say I have TRULY seen the worst, obviously, as I have not met every bulimic in the world and how its destroyed their lives to the point that they have no hope of ever recovering.
This is a good book if you're in that place and simply can't explain to those around you your mindset and what it is like to be fully in the clutches of bulimia and want to explain it from multiple points of view. First let me say up fron that I suffer from bulimia and have for many years. This book is okay for families and friends of people with bulimia, however I found it to be a very hopeless book.
It left me feeling worse about myself than I already do. Maybe my expectations were too high. I am not sure but if you are looking for a book that will give you some hope, or help, this one did not do that for me at all. This book does show the severity of this illness.
