Dani Levy is my best friend. We went to the same school in Basel and met some years later by coincidence at a party, where I was playing jazz. Dani asked me, if I was interested in writing the music to his first movie and so we started both a career in film as very beginners. I think without him, I would not be in films. Dani is a very inspiring director, who always challenges me to try out new things. For each movie, he has a concept for the music in mind. So each movie I did with Dani has a completely different style of film music. The challenge was not to create happy comedy music, but to find music that slips from comedy into tragedy and fear, without getting too serious.
Just like a theremin effect, that Is an old fashion spooky effect, I used whistling and tuned it 1 octave down to get this trembling atmosphere of comic horror. MT: The music you wrote for Liebesleben is my number one favourites. Is there a reason why you wrote almost no Arabian sounding music for the film? There is some Arabian music that we hear on the radio and the images of Israel are so powerful that there was no need to describe it more in the score.
In a way, the music never steps out the body of Jara, but it's caught inside her. It is probably the connection with Dani Levy that makes me more a German filmmaker than a Swiss one. I never decided for myself not to make Swiss movies, but there never have been al lot of offers from Swiss filmmakers. Another reason is that there are pretty low budgets for music in Switzerland and since I record everything live, it would pretty hard to break with.
How do you decide this? It is always a question of budget and time schedules that decide where I will record with an orchestra. Now there is a new studio at an old Radio hall in my hometown of Basel and I know a lot of musicians of the Basel Symphony Orchestra and this gives me the opportunity to build up a working relationship with them on a regular basis.

My favorite score I did is completely unknown. MT: I read that you have done the whistling and part of the voices on some of your scores When I compose, I always have a microphone by my side. The fastest way to record a melody for a musical layout is to whistle or sing it.

It often happens that the directors like the idea of whistling and singing, so this element becomes part of the score. THe book is mainly for younger girls.

Their friends the pygmes a group of guys stea The wild chickens is a very popular german children book. Their friends the pygmes a group of guys steal the key and let the chickens run free. But then the kids work together and solve the mystery of the black key. Da spielt die Nostalgie definitiv eine Rolle. Probleme, wie sie fast jeder kennt und die man gerade deshalb so gut versteht. Ich war ein wildes Huhn und werde immer eines sein. Nostalgie pur. I first read it when I was 8 years old in third grade.
It was after reading this that I fell in love with books. Overall, the characters and the plot were very relatable back then because as a child, I spent most of my time outdoors with friends. We didn't have computers, iPods, and whatnot to keep us occupied. That being said, I'm not sure how well children today may relate but nonetheless, it's well-written and will definitely capture the interest of its intended audience. A definite must-rea I first read it when I was 8 years old in third grade. A definite must-read!
Pity it's not been translated from German into English. Ich freu mich richtig auf die anderen Teile :. Immer wieder toll und einer meiner liebsten Teile. Jun 15, Shea marked it as to-read.

I kind of feel like cheating for my reading challenge because I know I will fly through this six book series in no time, but I need the nostalgia to get through my exams haha! This was my absolute favourite series while growing up - it was to me what Harry Potter was to a lot of people. I'm so excited to dive into this world again!
I'd forgotten just how funny these books are, and on how many more subjects they touch as well. Wengistens ist es jetzt auch auf Goodreads Teil meiner Bibliothek. Jun 29, Sean Harding rated it liked it. Girl-Power book on one level on another it is about friendship and accepting people for who they are and not what you want them to be. Reasonable although a little forced in parts.
